Rain Forces Adjustments To Baseball Schedule Against Mercyhurst, Tiffin

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican baseball team will once again be on the road with its non-conference schedule this weekend with games against Mercyhurst and Tiffin back in Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio.

The Panthers and Lakers will square off in a nine-inning game at 1 p.m. Sunday, then play a doubleheader against Tiffin at 1 p.m. Monday.

ODU (4-0) continued its early season dominance with a sweep of Grand Valley State, winning game one 11-7 and game two 6-1.  The Panthers finished with 19 total hits in the two games and totaled 17 runs in the sweep.

Their dominating performance helped the Panthers, yet again, sweep the Player of the Week honors in the G-MAC.  Mitchell Bault (Maineville, Ohio) won Pitcher of the Week, going 6.0 strong innings and striking out nine while only allowing one run.  Bault leads the GMAC with 14 strikeouts. Joey Machuga (Canfield, Ohio) also took home Player of the Week honors, going 4-for-7 with two doubles and six RBI's.  He leads the G-MAC in RBI's with 10 and is tied for the league best in doubles with three.

Machuga and Jonathan Conkle (Massillon, Ohio) lead the Panthers with 4 hits each in the series, while Justin Childers (Pickerington, Ohio) tallied 3 hits and Colin Kaucher (Toledo, Ohio) added two in the series.  Childers added two walks while Bradley Hull (Gahanna, Ohio), and Kaucher added two RBI's each.

On the bump, Joey Filosa (Fort Wayne, Indiana) started game one and went 2.0 innings while a trio of Panther arms in senior Tyler Magley (Baltimore, Ohio), Dustin Cowart (Hoover, Ala.) and freshman Tim Zeller (Mount Vernon, Ohio) kept the Lakers off the board over the final 4.1 innings. Bault had a strong outing in game two, fanning nine batters and only allowing one run in 6.0 innings of work.

In 2017, the Panthers dropped their only matchup with Mercyhurst 6-0 and lost three of four against Tiffin in their last games of the season.
