BAY CITY, Mich. – Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team was projected to finish sixth in the GLIAC South Division and senior forward Aaron Gibbs (Oberlin, Ohio) was picked to the Preseason All-GLIAC Second Team, announced today by the conference office.
The Panthers garnered 53 points, trailing Tiffin (72) for the fifth spot in the division. Findlay was first with 170 points and 20 first-place votes, Hillsdale was second with 140 points and three first-place votes, Wayne State was third with 134 points and two first-place votes, Ashland was fourth with 96 points, and Lake Erie was selected seventh with 35 points.
Michigan Tech was picked to win the GLIAC North Division, followed by Grand Valley State in second place.
Gibbs, a Second Team all-conference performer after last season, averaged 12.8 points and 7.0 rebounds in 2010-11. His rebound total was the second-best in the league last season.
In addition to Gibbs, ODU returns starting guards Morgan Jones (Oberlin, Ohio) and Kip Kelley (Raleigh, N.C.). Jones, a junior, was ODU's top scorer with 13.0 points per game, while Kelly, a senior, led the league in three-point shooting (46.3 percent). Also returning in the backcourt is senior guard Darrien Douglas (Willard, Ohio) and sophomore Zack Joseph (Lewis Center, Ohio).
In the frontcourt, John Trew (Barberton, Ohio), Zak Kapron (Malvern, Ohio) and Jake Mochoskay (Mansfield, Ohio) combined to make 36 starts last season and will play key roles again this year. Mochoskay was the team's third-leading scorer at 10.2 points per contest, Trew led the team with 37 blocked shots and Kapron shot 49.2 percent from the field.
Ohio Dominican takes the court for the first time at 8 p.m. ET at Division I Southern Illinois on Saturday, Nov. 12. The Salukis were picked to finish ninth in the Missouri Valley Conference.
