COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio Dominican's men's basketball hits the road this week for GLIAC contests at North Division foes Lake Superior State and Saginaw Valley State.
Tip-off against Lake Superior State is slated for 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, while the Panthers and Cardinals play at 3 p.m. Saturday.
The Panthers are coming off of a pair of home setbacks last week as ODU fell 70-65 to Northwood and 71-48 to Wayne State. Four of ODU's five starters scored in double figures against Northwood, highlighted by 22 points from junior guard Morgan Jones (Oberlin, Ohio), but ODU managed just six bench points in the loss. The Panthers trailed by one, 59-58, with 2:48 left, but could not gain the lead in the waning minutes.
ODU's offense never got in sync in the loss to Wayne State, as senior forward Aaron Gibbs (Oberlin, Ohio) was the lone player in double figures with 11 points, while senior center Zak Kapron (Malvern, Ohio) added nine. The Panthers made just two of their first 20 shots to start the game.
For the week, ODU shot 40.2 percent (43-of-107) from the field and 23.5 percent (8-of-34) from beyond the arc. Gibbs and Jones put up identical numbers, as both shot 11-of-24 from the field to average 13.0 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. Kapron averaged 10.5 points and 4.0 rebounds for ODU as well.
Lake Superior enters the weekend with an 8-9 record (3-7 GLIAC), though four of those losses have come in overtime and eight have been by eight points or fewer. Jones led ODU with 17 points in ODU's 78-69 setback to the Lakers last year as ODU went just 4-of-17 at the free throw line. ODU dropped an 83-79 decision to Saginaw Valley last season, with Jake Mochoskay (Mansfield, Ohio) pouring in 20 points and 12 rebounds in 24 minutes off the bench. SVSU is 9-8 (5-5 GLIAC) this season.
