CANTON, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team was held to a season low in points as the Panthers fell 64-47 at Malone in GLIAC play on Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers shot just 36.4 percent from the field, including 19.0 percent from three-point range, and also committed 14 turnovers.
Sophomore Mike DeLeon (Powell, Ohio) had his second consecutive strong offensive performance as he made 6-of-9 shots for 13 points, along with five rebounds. Senior Chad Nelson (Columbus, Ohio) added 12 points and senior Trent Weaver (Columbus, Ohio) grabbed eight rebounds.
Nelson hit a jumper and freshman Michael Simon (Hilliard, Ohio) knocked down a pair of three-pointers as part of an 8-0 run to give ODU an early 12-8 lead. The Pioneers countered with a 13-2 run and would take a 38-29 lead into the locker room.
Sophomore Adam Cytlak (Van Buren, Ohio) buried a three to start the second half that brought the Panthers within six, but Malone scored the next 11 points and the Panthers never recovered.
With the loss, ODU fell to 9-16 (6-13). Malone improved to 6-18 (3-16 GLIAC).
Ohio Dominican returns home to host Ashland at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Alumni Hall.
