COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio Dominican's men's soccer team picked up a 3-1 victory over Lake Erie to record its first Great Midwest Athletic Conference win on Saturday afternoon at Panther Stadium.
ODU (2-3, 1-2 G-MAC) held a 20-14 advantage in shots over the Storm and also recorded a 9-6 edge in shots on goal.
Junior Ryan Kasprzak (Hilliard, Ohio) scored his third goal of the season. Sophomore Cameron Christian (Pataskala, Ohio) recorded his first goal of 2017 and fifth of his career, while freshman Jaxson Szabo (Worthington, Ohio) found the back of the net for the second time.
Senior keeper Clayton Hildebrand (Findlay, Ohio) notched five saves in his second win of the year.
Ohio Dominican scored early after a goal on a free kick in the eighth minute by Kasprzak went past the LEC defenders and keeper and into the back of the net, giving ODU a 1-0 lead that it carried into the second half.
Christian increased the Panther lead to 2-0 in the 58th minute with a goal after a failed clear attempt by the Storm.
Szabo added to the ODU advantage in the 82nd minute, scoring on an assist from senior Jimmy Fultz (Dayton, Ohio) to bump the Ohio Dominican lead up to 3-0.
Lake Erie (1-4, 0-3 G-MAC) scored in the 83rd minute to cut its deficit to 3-1, but ODU held off a late rally attempt for the victory.
Ohio Dominican will prepare for three Great Midwest matches this coming week. The Panthers host Davis & Elkins on Tuesday, September 19 at 7 p.m. before heading to Cedarville for a 5 p.m. match on Thursday, September 21 and Ohio Valley for a contest on Saturday, September 23 at 3:30 p.m.
