Men’s Soccer Tops Walsh 2-0 On Brock Taylor Memorial Night

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio Dominican's men's soccer team earned a 2-0 win over Walsh in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference contest on Saturday night and celebrated the life and legacy of former Panther defender, Brock Taylor.

Taylor was honored prior to the match by the team and his number seven jersey was presented to his family and will be retired by the program following the conclusion of the 2017 season. In all, $1,000 was raised in Taylor's honor, with proceeds going to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Junior Ryan Kasprzak (Hilliard, Ohio) scored his fifth goal of the year and assisted on the Panthers' second goal of the night. Freshman Ross Baumer (Hilliard, Ohio) notched the first goal of his collegiate career in the win, while sophomore Noah Kiser (Mason, Ohio) also picked up an assist.

Kasprzak scored the first goal of the night for the Panthers in the 41st minute on a free kick after a foul by Walsh at the top left portion of the box. Kasprzak put a strong shot to the back right of the goal, giving ODU a 1-0 lead just before halftime.

Baumer pushed the Panthers to a 2-0 edge in the 57th minute. Kiser passed the ball to Kasprzak at the close right wing and Kasprzak made the extra pass to Baumer in the middle of the box, striking the ball into the net to give ODU a two goal lead.

The Panther defense held firm for the remainder of the match. Freshman keeper Ian Crook (Cincinnati, Ohio) notched his second win of the year and recorded six saves, helping Ohio Dominican to its second-straight conference win.

The Panthers will travel to Lake Erie on Thursday to take on the Storm at 11 a.m. in a Great Midwest match.
