FINDLAY, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's men's soccer team came back from a 2-0 deficit in the second half to defeat Findlay 4-3 in overtime in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference matchup at DeHaven Field Thursday in Findlay.
Senior Jonathan Barnes (Winter Haven, Fla.) scored the game winning goal in the 93rd minute to seal the win for the Panthers.
Findlay started the scoring early in the game as Kegan Winkler found the back of the net in the 2nd minute to put the Oilers up 1-0. Just before the half, Findlay notched a second goal to extend their lead to 2-0 after the opening 45 minutes.
That score held until the 74th minute when Barnes was fouled in the box which gave junior Demarco Andrews (Kingston, Jamaica) an opportunity on a penalty kick in the 74th minute. Andrews found the back of the net for the Panthers for his first career goal to cut the deficit in half at 2-1.
Just a minute and 43 seconds later, freshman Amadou Mamadou (Columbus, Ohio) found the back of the net off a cross from fellow freshman Mario Alvarez (Mount Vernon, Ohio) also for his first career goal.
Findlay answered the Panthers as Josh Dickinson scored for the Oilers to knot the game at 3-3 where the 90 minutes of regulation would end.
In overtime, Barnes converted for the third game-winner of his career to complete the Panther comeback and push the Panthers to a 4-4 overall record and a 3-2 record in the G-MAC. Findlay falls to 2-5 overall and 2-2 in the conference.
Senior goalkeeper Alec Mathew (Pataskala, Ohio) faced 10 shots on goal while having seven saves in all 93 minutes between the posts.
Ohio Dominican comes back home as they host Tiffin at Panther Stadium on Saturday with kickoff set for 2:30 p.m.
