NEW CONCORD, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's men's soccer team dropped a Great Midwest Athletic Conference match-up with No. 6 Ohio Valley by a score of 3-0 on the campus of Muskingum University Thursday afternoon.
With the loss, ODU drops to 6-6 overall and 5-4 in the conference while OVU advances to 11-1 overall and 7-1 in the conference.
The first half saw a defensive battle as neither team allowed a goal through the opening 43 minutes. The Panthers had five fouls to the Ohio Valley four in that time.
Just before halftime, in the 44th minute, the Scots were able to get on the board on an Alexandre Horveno free kick to take OVU to the half with a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, Ohio Dominican and OVU each had seven shots with each having three on goal. The Panthers and Scots also each had three corner kick opportunities.
After an OVU red card in the 65th minute, the Panthers had a man-up advantage for the final 25 minutes but could not take advantage.
OVU then extended their lead in the 84th minute on a breakaway off a Panther free kick to make the score 2-0. In the 86th minute, the Scots converted on a free kick to put OVU up 3-0 where the match would come to an end.
The game saw 10 cards including eight yellows and a red from OVU and just one yellow from the Panthers.
The Panthers will get the weekend off as they prepare to take on Alderson Broaddus on Thursday, October 11 on Senior Day at Panther Stadium with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m.
