WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Ohio Dominican softball team split a pair of games Friday morning at the Rebel Spring Games, beating Glenville State (W.Va.) 3-0 and falling to No. 18 Caldwell (NJ) 9-0.
The Panthers are now 4-16 on the season.
In game one, the Panthers wasted no time getting the bats going, scoring one run in the top of the first. Junior Kelsey Seeds (Westerville, Ohio) started the inning with a one-out single up the middle. A walk to junior Taylor Thomas (Bellville, Ohio) put runners on first and second. Freshman Casey Murdoch (Morrow, Ohio) reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Seeds who was safe due to an error by the catcher.
In the top of the fourth, sophomore Kelsey Albanese (Westerville, Ohio) hit a leadoff single and junior Alex Cribari (Lyndhurst, Ohio) followed with a bunt single. After a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Lizzy Weber (Canton, Ohio) to advance the runners to second and third, freshman Allie Hinton (Newcomerstown, Ohio) singled to right, scoring Albanese and Cribari.
Junior Rachael Stanzel (Angleton, Texas) picked up the win for ODU, throwing a complete game shutout, while allowing six hits and fanning three batters.
Seeds was 3-for-4 from the plate while Thomas went a perfect 2-for-2 with two walks. Hinton added two hits and two RBI.
In game two, Caldwell used two big innings in the second and third to get ahead of the Panthers 9-0. Ohio Dominican had no answer for the strong offense, registering just three hits in the five innings on play.
