COLUMBUS, Ohio -- After a strong to start in GLIAC play last week, the Ohio Dominican softball team will continue conference play with a four game home stand this weekend when they host Findlay for two games on Friday, and Hillsdale for two games on Sunday.
The Findlay games were originally schedule to be played at Findlay on Saturday but due to their field not being ready, and weather issues, the games have been moved to Friday and on the Ohio Dominican campus.
Ohio Dominican (6-18) started GLIAC play strong last week taking both games from Lake Superior State to start 2-0 and are tied for first in the conference coming into this weekend. The Panthers bats have come alive in the last three games as they have scored eight runs and double-digit hits in all three contests. Senior shortstop Caitlin Jividen (Wheeling, WV) led the Panthers last week going five-for seven from the plate with two home runs, while driving in four runs. Jividen is now batting .394 and has 11 RBI on the season.
Junior infielder Taylor Thomas (Bellville, OH) paces ODU with a .400 batting average and a team high 15 RBI. Thomas has shown some power as she has two home runs, and a conference best, seven doubles. The Panther pitching staff is led by junior Rachel Stanzel (Angleton, TX) who has accounted for three of the team's six wins. She is coming off a complete game win over Lake Superior State where she gave up one earned run while striking out four batters.
Findlay (8-3) comes into this weekend winning their first two GLIAC contests against Hillsdale last week, tying them with ODU for the top spot. The Panthers took both games against the Oilers last season in Columbus. Senior pitcher, Tawan Whited, leads the Oilers with a 7-0 record on the season with a 1.63 ERA.
Hillsdale (4-6) comes into this weekend 0-2 in GLIAC play after losing two games to Findlay. The Chargers and Panthers split a two game set last year in Columbus with ODU winning 3-2, and Hillsdale winning 5-3. The Chargers are led by freshman Bekah Kastning who is hitting .367 with seven RBI.
The Findlay double header will begin at 3:00p.m. on Friday, March 28, and the Hillsdale games will be on Sunday, March 30 starting at 1:00p.m. Both series will be played at Panther Softball Field on the Ohio Dominican campus.
