FINDLAY, Ohio – Following the conclusion of the first round game against the University of Findlay, the GLIAC recognized seven Panther players and head coach Marcella Vanlandingham on the 2014 All-GLIAC Softball teams, as voted on by the conference coaches in ballot format.
Five Panthers were named to the First Team All-GLIAC including freshman Allie Hinton (Newcomerstown, OH), junior Montana Fishel (Gahanna, OH), junior Taylor Thomas (Bellville, OH), senior Rachael Stanzel (Angleton, TX), and senior Caitlin Jividen (Wheeling, WV). Junior Kelsey Albanese (Westerville, OH) and junior Brier Sanner (Hartville, OH) were both named to the Honorable Mention team.
The Panthers also took home three individual awards. Thomas was the GLIAC Player of the Year, Hinton was the Freshman of the Year, and coach Vanlandingham was the GLIAC Coach of the Year.
Thomas is leading the Panthers in four offensive categories. She has a .409 batting average, 35 RBI, 15 doubles, and nine home runs. Thomas has also scored 31 runs and has shown patience at the plate with 15 walks on the season. Thomas ranks in the top five in the GLIAC in hits, doubles, home runs, RBI, walks, on base percentage, and slugging percentage.
Hinton has continued to have a solid first season as a Panther as she is batting .343 and is ranked fourth on the team. She is also tied with Thomas for most RBI with 35. Hinton has also added 27 runs, nine doubles, two triples, and five home runs.
Fishel, another young Panther has had a breakout season batting .347. Fishel has 43 hits on the season, and has been a key defensive player for the Panther outfield. She has 46 put outs, three assists, and only one error for a .980 fielding percentage. Fishel also added 26 runs for fifth best on the team.
Stanzel led the Panther pitching staff, and was a large reason for a team 3.21 ERA. Stanzel is tied for the most wins in the conference with her 18-13 record. She had a 2.36 ERA and recorded six shutouts. Stanzel has now thrown over 200 innings on the season and has 110 strikeouts.
Jividen finished her Panther career strong, with a .382 batting average in her senior season. Her 28 RBI is third on the team, and she leads the Panthers with 22 walks. Jividen was also a defensive anchor for ODU, leading the team with 97 assists. She also leads the team with 10 steals.
Albanese has had a strong second half of the season. She is now batting .324 with 27 RBI. Albanese has scored 27 runs and has added eight doubles and two home runs.
Sanner has become the everyday catcher for the Panthers this season. She has handled the pitching staff well and only had three errors on the season. Sanner also led the team with 101 put outs on the season.
