ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Ohio Dominican softball team concluded its postseason run with a 6-0 loss to Truman State in the elimination game of the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers ended their season with an overall record of 30-29 and earned numerous postseason awards in the conference, including GLIAC Freshman of the Year in Allie Hinton (Newcomerstown, Ohio), Player of the Year junior Taylor Thomas (Bellville, Ohio), and Coach of the Year, Marcella Vanlandingham.
In the top of the second, Jessica VanNostrand gave the Bulldogs an early 1-0 lead after connecting with the 2-2 pitch, homering to deep right center field. Truman State added a run to go up 2-0 thanks to an error by the Panther infield.
The Bulldogs extended their lead 5-0 in the top of the fourth after Ally Reynolds scored on a walk issued to Andrea Klipsch and Corey Niblett scored on a sacrifice fly to right field. Klipsch stole home to give the Bulldogs their fifth run of the game.
Thomas registered the Panthers first hit of the game with a two-out single to left field, followed by a single from Hinton to put runners at first and second. ODU couldn't capitalize though, stranding both.
