No. 8 – Softball Earns First NCAA Tournament Win
Ohio Dominican's softball team had a landmark season. The Panthers finished with a 21-5 mark in the GLIAC regular season to claim their first conference title, then finished as the GLIAC Tournament runner-up.
That was enough for the team to earn a bid into the NCAA Midwest Regional, where the Panthers were the No. 5 seed. They opened the tournament on May 9 against Truman State and made their debut in the postseason one to remember.
GLIAC Freshman of the Year Allie Hinton smacked a two-run homer in the first inning to stake the Panthers to a 2-0 lead, and Alex Cribari doubled and scored on a Truman error in the second to make it 3-0.
The Bulldogs got on the board with solo home runs in the third and fourth innings, but senior Rachael Stanzel shut the door on the tournament's No. 4 seed after that point as ODU held on for the 3-2 victory.
Though the Panthers would be eliminated the next day, the win marked the first in NCAA Tournament play by any Ohio Dominican program since the school transitioned to the Division II level.
