COLUMBUS, Ohio — In its first trip to the postseason since 2014, Ohio Dominican's softball team will face Ashland in first round action of the 2017 GLIAC Softball Tournament at Marathon Diamonds in Findlay, Ohio this Saturday at 2 p.m.
The Panthers (27-21, 14-8 GLIAC) finished fourth in the GLIAC regular season standings and will take on fifth-seeded Ashland in the first round on Saturday. The tournament is single elimination and with a victory, ODU would face either top-seeded Grand Valley State or Findlay in the semifinal round on Saturday at 6 p.m.
Junior Taylor Kline (Bellville, Ohio) leads Ohio Dominican's offensive attack, boasting a GLIAC-high 37 stolen bases and a batting average of .427, good enough to rank fifth in the conference. Kline boasts 26 multi-hit games this season and held a season-long hitting streak of 19 games.
Finishing third in the GLIAC in RBIs is senior Kelly Wallace (Oshkosh, Wisconsin), who notched a career-high 37 RBIs this season. Wallace held an average of .373 in the regular season and a team-high slugging percentage of .551. The senior tallied 59 hits, 12 doubles and four home runs in 48 regular season games for ODU.
Leading the Panthers in the circle is sophomore Abby Lamping (Cleves, Ohio), who enters GLIAC Tournament play with a 2.53 ERA in 155.0 innings pitched. Lamping has struck out 85 batters this season while notching 12 wins in 18 complete games. Freshman Cameron Barber (Powell, Ohio) has also made strong contributions to the Panther pitching staff, boasting an ERA of 3.21 to rank second on the squad in earned run average. Barber also holds a batting average of .308, fifth-best on the team. Overall, Ohio Dominican ranks sixth in the GLIAC in ERA at 3.40 on the season.
Junior Liz Sutter (Mansfield, Ohio) ranks third on the squad in batting average at .322, while senior Casey Murdoch (Morrow, Ohio) holds an average of .313 with a team-leading 14 doubles and three home runs.
ODU split with Ashland in its last two contests, with each team earning 3-2 victories, but the Panthers went 5-1 in games against Ashland, Grand Valley and Findlay in the regular season.
