LOUISVILLE – After a late rally came up just shy in a 7-6 setback in the first game, Ohio Dominican's softball team earned a split at Bellarmine with a 3-1 win in game two on Sunday.
The Panthers trailed 7-2 in the opener and had two outs with nobody on before nearly completing the comeback. Senior Taylor Kline (Bellville, Ohio) and classmate Liz Sutter (Mansfield, Ohio) each singled, and sophomore Taylor Farmer (Mt. Blanchard, Ohio) followed with an RBI basehit that drove in Kline.
Sophomore Cameron Barber (Powell, Ohio) smacked a double to left-center that brought in Sutter and Farmer and freshman Raemon Meents (Downer Grove, Ill.) drew a walk. Freshman Carson Hackerd (Frankfort, Ind.) then stepped in and doubled to left to score pinch-runner freshman Aubrey Rolon (Hilliard, Ohio) and make it 7-6, but a strikeout ended the rally and ballgame.
Kline went 3-for-4 and Barber went 2-for-4 with three RBIs to lead the offense. Junior Abby Lamping (Cleves, Ohio) worked 4.2 innings and allowed just one earned run in relief, throwing 49 of 72 pitches for strikes.
The Panthers struck quickly in game two and played from in front as Barber had an RBI single and freshman Kristen Bales (Pickerington, Ohio) an RBI double with two down in the inning.
Bellarmine closed to 2-1 in the fourth inning, but ODU tacked on an insurance run off of a Knights error in the fifth inning to go in front 3-1.
Barber set the side down in order in the fifth, worked around two singles in the sixth inning to keep Bellarmine off the board, then tossed a perfect seventh to pick up the complete game win.
She allowed just four hits and punched out 10 in the game. She improved to 4-1 with the victory and has now allowed just 29 hits in 33.2 innings, lowering her ERA to 2.50.
Barber also had two hits in the game, as did Bales.
ODU returns home for a doubleheader with Ashland at 1 p.m. Saturday.
