COLUMBUS, Ohio — Before a 10-game stretch of Great Midwest Athletic Conference games, Ohio Dominican's softball team will host Ashland and Saginaw Valley State in non-conference doubleheaders at Panther Field this weekend.
The Panthers (10-9, 0-0 G-MAC) are scheduled to take on Ashland this Saturday at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. before facing Saginaw Valley on Sunday at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
In its last outings, ODU split with Bellarmine in a road doubleheader this past Sunday. The Knights edged Ohio Dominican 7-6 in game one before the Panthers earned a 3-1 victory over BU in game two.
Sophomore pitcher Cameron Barber (Powell, Ohio) powered the Panthers to a win in game two, going all seven innings in the circle with just one earned run allowed, also batting 2-for-4 with one RBI. Barber also went 2-for-4 in game one, notching three RBIs and a home run.
Through 19 contests, the Panthers rank fourth in the Great Midwest in slugging percentage (.404), second in stolen bases (23) and third in RBIs (86). Leading the Panthers in batting average is senior Liz Sutter (Mansfield, Ohio), who is hitting .400 with 10 RBIs and an on base percentage of .429. Sophomore Taylor Farmer (Mt. Blanchard, Ohio) leads the team and ranks fourth in the conference in RBIs with 19 on the season. Farmer is also batting .354 while notching two wins in the circle.
Junior pitcher Abby Lamping (Cleves, Ohio) leads the squad and ranks eighth in the Great Midwest in earned run average at 1.93. Lamping has gone 54.1 innings, striking out 30 while recording three wins and four complete games.
Following this weekend's games against Ashland and Saginaw Valley, ODU will travel to Malone and Cedarville next Friday, March 23 and Saturday, March 24 for its first conference games of the season.
