COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio Dominican's softball team dropped a pair of games in a non-conference doubleheader with Saginaw Valley State on Sunday afternoon at Panther Field.
The Cardinals (9-9) topped the Panthers by final scores of 3-1 and 10-4 to win their third and fourth-consecutive games.
In game one, ODU (10-11) held SVSU to just five hits and three runs, but mustered just four hits offensively. Junior pitcher Abby Lamping (Cleves, Ohio) went all seven innings in the circle, striking out five while walking just one. Freshman Kristen Bales (Pickerington, Ohio) went 2-for-3 in the game with a double, notching one RBI. Sophomore Cameron Barber (Powell, Ohio) also recorded a double for ODU.
Saginaw Valley held a 1-0 lead in the contest and used a two-run home run to left center field by Courtney Reeves in the third inning to take a 3-0 lead. Trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the third, Bales singled up the middle to score sophomore Brooklyn Rayburn (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) and cut the Panthers' deficit to just 3-1. Mikayla Alexandrou went all seven innings in the circle and gave up just two more hits for the rest of the game, earning the 3-1 victory for the Cardinals.
In game two, Saginaw Valley scored 10 runs on 14 hits to surge forward to victory. Ohio Dominican scored four runs on nine hits. Barber went 2-for-2 with an RBI and two walks. Senior Taylor Kline (Bellville, Ohio) finished 2-for-4 with an RBI. Bales followed up a strong performance in game one with a 2-for-4 outing in game two with an RBI. Freshman Carson Hackerd (Frankfort, Indiana) also went 2-for-4 in the contest.
The Panthers will look to get back in the win column when the host Ashland on Monday at Panther field for a non-conference doubleheader.
