INDIANAPOLIS – In the midst of an eight-game win streak, Ohio Dominican's softball team captured both the G-MAC Player and Pitcher of the Week awards, with sophomore Cameron Barber (Powell, Ohio) being recognized for her performance at the plate and junior Abby Lamping (Cleves, Ohio) honored for her work in the circle.
Barber batted .500 in ODU's six games last week, going 10-for-20 at the dish with three homers and eight RBIs. She also scored five runs and drew a pair of walks, finishing with a .545 OBP and 1.000 slugging percentage.
She has hit in seven straight games for the Panthers and 10 of the past 11 contests and had three multi-hit efforts in last week's six-game stretch. Barber was terrific in Friday's doubleheader against Davis & Elkins, cranking three homers and driving in five, and she closed the week with a 3-for-5 effort against Alderson Broaddus.
Barber was no slouch as a pitcher last week either, winning all three of her starts and allowing just one run on seven hits in 17.0 innings (0.41 ERA). She tossed a three-hit shutout on Monday against Malone, worked three hitless innings on Friday against Davis & Elkins, then closed the week by striking out nine Battlers and surrendering just four hits on Saturday.
She's now batting .403 on the season with five homers and 23 RBIs, sporting a .453 OBP and slugging .688. Barber ranks fourth in the league in homers and RBIs In the circle, she's 8-4 with a 2.39 ERA, which is seventh in the conference, and she ranks sixth in the league by holding opponents to a .242 batting average against.
Meanwhile, Lamping won all three of her starts as well, going the distance in each, and allowed just 12 hits and three walks in her 19.0 innings of work, good for a 1.11 ERA.
On Monday against Malone, she allowed just five hits and two runs while striking out five in a 4-2 win. In Friday's outing against Davis & Elkins, she again allowed just five hits and one run and struck out a season-high seven. Lamping closed the week by tossing five scoreless innings on Saturday against Alderson Broaddus, allowing just two hits in an 8-0 win over the Battlers.
Lamping has 10 complete games in her 12 starts on the season and is now 7-6 with a 2.07 ERA. She ranks sixth in the conference in ERA and leads the league with 93.1 innings pitched. Lamping is holding foes to a .231 batting average against, which is fourth in the conference.
ODU is now 18-15 on the season and sits third in the G-MAC with an 8-2 conference record. The Panthers have a non-conference doubleheader scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday with Indianapolis at Panther Field.
