AKRON, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's head softball coach Marcella Vanlandingham was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Coach of the Year while six players were named to All-Conference teams.
Coach Vanlandingham has led her team to a 32-20 record and a 21-5 conference record on the way to earning a G-MAC Regular season championship. She earned her 700th career win in the final regular season game of the year against Lake Erie where the team also clinched the No. 1 overall seed in the conference.
Junior Landry Slider (Stow, Ohio) and freshman pitcher Sydney Long (Ashland, Ohio) were named to the All-Conference First Team while senior catcher Kelly Mix (Baltimore, Ohio), sophomore Kristen Bales (Pickerington, Ohio) and juniors Cameron Barber (Powell, Ohio) and Taylor Farmer (Mt. Blanchard, Ohio) were named to the All-Conference Second Team.
Slider led the Panthers in batting average at .374 this season while also leading the team with 39 RBI's. Shes tied for second on the squad with 13 doubles and her four home runs tie her for fourth.
Long has helped lead the pitching staff this season appearing in 28 games wth 20 starts and a 13-6 record with one save in 139.2 innings pitched. Her ERA leads the Panthers at 2.36 while her 105 strikeouts is second on the squad. Long has thrown four complete game shutouts this season including a no-hitter on March 19 against Cedarville.
On Second Team All-Conference, Barber has been the other force in the circle for the Panthers starting 24 games with a team leading 16 wins to just eight losses. She has 10 complete games, two being shutouts in 139.1 innings pitched. Her ERA goes into the week at 3.87 and she leads the pitching staff with 137 strikeouts and just 19 walks. Barber also is hitting .331 this season at the plate with six homeruns and is second on the team with 37 RBI's. Her .563 slugging percentage is just points behind the second half of the ODU battery in Kelly Mix.
Mix is second on the squad with a .352 batting average while her .570 slugging percentage leads the Panther offense. Mix has four homers this season with 13 doubles and three triples. She is also third on the squad with 31 runs scored.
Outfielder Kristen Bales has played in every game for the Panthers as her .350 batting average is third on the squad and her six home runs is tied for second on the team with Barber. She is second in the Panther lineup with a .567 slugging percentage adding 10 doubles and three triples to her six homeruns.
First baseman Taylor Farmer led the Panthers and was tied for third in the conference with 10 homeruns as she has also played in all 52 games for the Panthers. Farmer is fourth on the squad with 30 runs scored and leads the defense with 351 putouts and her .986 fielding percentage is the best among the infielders.
The Panthers (32-20, 21-5) are the No.1 seed in this weeks G-MAC Tournament and play Hillsdale Thursday morning at Firestone Stadium in Akron, Ohio with first pitch set for 10 a.m.
