VIENNA, W. Va. – Junior Alexa Fisher (Powell, Ohio) knocked down the go-ahead three with 18 seconds left to send Ohio Dominican's women's basketball team to a 77-76 victory at Ohio Valley on Saturday.
With the win, coupled with other results around the G-MAC, Ohio Dominican will be the No. 7 seed in the G-MAC Tournament and play its quarterfinal game at No. 2 Kentucky Wesleyan at 3:30 p.m. (CT) on Tuesday.
ODU had led by as much as 26 points in the first half and took a 68-56 lead into the fourth quarter. However, the Fighting Scots took a trio of two-point leads in the fourth quarter, including at 76-74 with 1:13 left.
The Panthers missed their ensuing jump shot and grabbed the offensive rebound, but then turned the ball over. Ohio Valley then missed a jumper of its own prior to Fisher's game-winner.
Junior Hannah Clark (Glenmont, Ohio) and freshman Kennedy Schlabach (Millersburg, Ohio) each scored 15 points to lead ODU. Sophomore Olivia Fox (Newark, Ohio) added 12 and senior Alexis Overly (Chillicothe, Ohio) chipped in with 10, while sophomore Taylor Harazin (Aurora, Ill.) grabbed eight rebounds off the bench.
The Panthers came out scorching in the first quarter, hitting 9-of-15 shots to take a 25-11 lead. Schlabach then hit a trio of threes early in the second period to extend the lead to 39-13 with 7:38 to play in the period for ODU's biggest cushion, and the Panthers would take a 49-27 lead into the locker room.
Ohio Dominican finishes the regular season with a 15-13 record, the fourth straight year that the Panthers have won at least 15 games.
