ASHLAND, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican women's soccer team defeated Ashland on the road by a final of 2-1.
The Panthers (4-2-0, 1-0-0 GLIAC) have won four straight matches, and recorded their first GLIAC win of the season. With the loss Ashland drops to 3-2-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the GLIAC.
ODU received two goals from freshman Ashley Blake (Hilliard, OH) in the first 20 minutes.
Blake got the scoring started in the seventh minute as she put the ball past the goalkeepers dive in the bottom left corner. Twelve minutes later she was able to find the back of the net again, this time rebounding a shot attempt off the goalkeeper.
The Panthers seemed to control the ball offensively for most of the first half as they took a 9-2 shot advantage into the break, along with their 2-0 lead.
In the second half, Ashland was able to get back in the game quickly, scoring in the 49th minute. However, this would be the final goal of the match, as the Panthers held on for a 2-1 victory.
Overall, ODU had a 16-6 shot advantage, as well as a 6-2 corner kick advantage. Blake led the Black and Gold with six shots, three coming on net. Senior Emily Spencer (Gibsonia, PA), sophomore Amanda Fodor (Hilliard, OH), and freshman Allison Pavlik (Cortland, OH) each recorded two shot attempts.
The Panthers will welcome Northwood to Panther Stadium at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, September 26 for their conference home opener.
