COLUMBUS, Ohio – On a soggy evening at Panther Stadium, the Ohio Dominican women's soccer won its second consecutive GLIAC match as the Panthers defeated Findlay by a final score of 3-1.
ODU improves to 7-3-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the GLIAC. With the loss, Findlay falls to 6-4-0 overall and 3-2-0 in the conference.
The match saw many firsts, as three Panthers logged their first goal of the season. Junior Lauren Pratt (West Chester, OH), sophomore Emily Riviello (Huber Heights, OH), and freshman Ana Akovic (Strongsville, OH) each scored for ODU.
The Panthers got off to a quick start as they took a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute of the match. The ODU goal was scored by Pratt off a cross from junior Jessica Gross (Dayton, OH). In the 15th minute Findlay tied the match up with a goal off a corner kick.
Much of the remainder of the opening half saw the two teams stay tied at 1-1, but in the 44th minute, Riviello headed a shot into the back of the net off a corner kick from sophomore Kelly Johnson (Berea, OH), to take a 2-1 lead into the break.
In the second half, the Panthers were able to add one more goal from Akovic, who scored from the top of the box, off a pass from sophomore Amanda Fodor (Hilliard, OH).
Two Panther goalkeepers saw action tonight as freshman Kelsey Harris (Mason, OH) gave up one goal off two shots on target by the Oilers. Senior Laura Clark (Lapeer, MI) saved the lone shot on goal by the Oilers in the second half.
Overall, ODU outshot Findlay 17-8, with 11 Panther shots being on goal. Senior Jordan Mazzi (Galena, OH) led the Panthers with four shots, with two being on goal. Pratt ended the match with three shots.
The Panthers will look to build upon their current four match unbeaten streak at home as they host Tiffin at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday at Panther Stadium.
