COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican women's soccer team will be back on the road this weekend as they face Grand Valley State and Malone.
The Panthers were able to get off to fast starts as they defeated Findlay 3-1 and Tiffin 3-0. Junior Lauren Pratt (West Chester, OH) scored her first two goals of the season, finding the back of the net once in each match. Pratt scored twice while four other Panthers found success scoring goals once each in sophomores Emily Riviello (Huber Heights, OH), Alexa Scardina (Cincinnati, OH), Amanda Fodor (Hilliard, OH), and freshman Ana Akovic (Strongsville, OH).
For the weekend the Panthers outshot their opponents 32-9, including a 15-1 advantage against Tiffin.
All three goalkeepers saw action for ODU as freshman Kelsey Harris (Mason, OH) started both matches with senior Laura Clark (Lapeer, MI) subbing in at halftime. Junior Felicia Cuthbert (Marysville, OH) was also a part of the 3-0 shutout over Tiffin.
Harris is tied for second in the GLIAC with eight wins on the season. She also ranks fourth among conference goalkeepers in goals against average at 0.81.
Senior Jordan Mazzi (Galena, OH) ranks eighth in the conference and leads the Panthers in total shots with 37.
ODU still has yet to receive a yellow or red card this season, the only school in the GLIAC.
No. 3 Grand Valley State (Friday, October 17)
The Panthers will travel to Allendale, MI on Friday to face the defending conference and national champions in Grand Valley State. Currently the Lakers are ranked third nationally and hold an 11-1-0 overall record. GVSU sits atop the conference standings as they have been the only team to win all previous conference matches this season with a record of 7-0-0.
The Lakers are led by Gabriella Mencotti and Marti Corby who are the top two goal scorers in the GLIAC. Mencotti has nine goals while Corby has eight.
The Panthers are 0-4-0 all-time against GVSU. Last season ODU fell 1-0 to the Lakers in Columbus, Ohio.
ODU and GVSU are scheduled to kickoff at 7:00 p.m. at GVSU Soccer Field on Friday.
Malone (Sunday, October 19)
On Sunday the Panthers will travel to Canton, Ohio to battle the Pioneers of Malone. Malone comes into the week 1-10-0 overall and 0-8-0 in the GLIAC. Brianna Smith leads the offensive attack for Malone with five of the team 11 goals on the season.
The all-time series record for ODU against Malone is 6-6-0, but the Panthers are currently riding a three match win streak against the Pioneers including a 3-0 win in Canton last season.
ODU and Malone will kick off at 2:00 p.m. at Pioneer Soccer Field on Sunday.
