Women's Soccer Hits the Road for the First Time in 2018

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio Dominican's women's soccer team hits the road for the first time in 2018 as they travel to Ursuline before coming back home to face Lake Erie on Saturday in a pair of Great Midwest Athletic Conference matchups.

After four straight home games to open the 2018 season, the Panthers will go on the road for the first time on Thursday. The matchup with Ursuline is set for 4 p.m. on Thursday and the Panthers come back home on Saturday to play Lake Erie at 11:30 a.m.

ODU comes into this week No. 7 in the Midwest Regional rankings according to the United Soccer Coaches.

The Panthers come in to this week holding a 3-1 overall record and a 2-0 record in the G-MAC. In the two conference wins, senior goalkeeper Marissa Wierzbicki (Powell, Ohio) has recorded two shutouts playing all 180 minutes between the posts and recording 10 saves which earned her defensive player of the week nods in the G-MAC.

Last week, ODU recorded wins over Malone and Walsh to the tun of 1-0 scores each game.

The Panther offense has been led by sophomore Samantha Buck (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) who has four goals on the season along with an assist to total nine points to lead the G-MAC in both categories. The Panther offense also has nine different people with an assist as they lead the conference in assists with those nine and corner kicks with 27.

Junior Becca Gordon (Johnstown, Ohio) made a thunderous return to the Panther lineup last Saturday as she found the back of the net for her first goal of the year in the 1-0 win over Walsh on Saturday.

About Ursuline

The Arrows come in to the matchup on Thursday with a 3-1 overall record and a 2-1 G-MAC record. Last week, Ursuline had a 3-1 loss at Findlay on Thursday and a 2-0 win at Tiffin on Saturday. 

Ursuline comes into the game leading th G-MAC in shot attempts with 67 and tied with ODU in corner kicks with 27. 

The Arrows will be led offensively by Odessa Strizzi and Haley Knox who each have two goals for the Arrows through four games. The defense will be led by Gina Cerny who has started all four games for the Arrows between the posts recording 22 saves.

Last season, the Panthers split with the Arrows with eah team winning their home contests. At Panther Stadium, the Panthers won 3-1 while at Ursuline Soccer Field, the Arrows won 4-1.

About Lake Erie

The Storm comes into the week with a 2-2 overall record and 1-2 in the conference. Last week, Lake Erie earned a 1-0 win at Tiffin on Thursday before dropping 3-0 to Finday at home on Saturday.

Lake Erie is just a below a goal per game as they are sitting at three goals through four games. 

Rachel Weber will lead the Storm defense between the posts while three players each have one goal for the Storm offense.

Last season, the Panthers recorded 5-0 and 3-0 wins over the Storm.

Beofre making the trip to Columbus on Saturday, the Storm will travel to Cedarville to take on the Yellow Jackets on Thursday.
