OWENSBORO, Ky. – Ohio Dominican's women's soccer team held on to defeat Kentucky Wesleyan 2-1 in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference match-up on the road at Panther Field Thursday night.
The first half saw ODU outshoot KWC 12-5 with ODU having five on goal to KWC's two.
ODU got the scoring started in the 8th minute off a goal from senior Anita Ferguson (Columbus, Ohio) as sophomore Samantha Buck (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) found the fellow forward for the one-on-one to finish past the KWC goalkeeper.
KWC answered in the 27th minute as Breigh Haase received a pass in the middle of the box and scored to knot the game at 1-1.
Just before the half, in the 40th minute, freshman Hannah Arison (Valley City, Ohio) found Buck for her ninth goal of the season to give ODU the 2-1 lead heading into the halftime.
In the second half, ODU was outshot 7-6 where ODU had five shots on goal while KWC had just one.
Senior goalkeeper Marissa Wierzbicki (Powell, Ohio) faced three total shots making two saves in all 90 minutes between the posts for ODU.
With the win, ODU advances to 9-4-1 overall and 8-3-1 in the conference while KWC drops to 4-8-1 and 3-7-1 in the G-MAC.
ODU remains on the road as they travel to Trevecca Nazarene on Saturday, October 20 with kickoff set for 2 p.m.
