The Ohio Dominican women's tennis team battled against a strong opponent on Saturday afternoon, but fell in the end, 6-3 to Wayne State University.
The Panthers looked strong in the start of doubles play, keeping all three courts within striking distance. On court three, Ana Pico (So./A Coruña, Spain) and Anita Girizd (Sr./Ada, Serbia) gained control of their match and held on for the 8-5 to even the match at 1-1. ODU had chances on court two, but could not finish, dropping the match and trailing 2-1 after doubles play.
An energetic Panther team turned in some solid singles play, but fell short losing 4-of-6 singles courts. Pico earned another singles win on court three, winning 6-2, 6-0. Regina Camberos (Jr./San Luis Potosi, Mexico) overcame an early first set deficit to win 6-4, 7-5 on court six.
The Panthers will return to action next Thursday as they travel to Michigan Tech for another GLIAC showdown with the Huskies.
