The Ohio Dominican women's tennis team finsihed up play at the ITA Midwest Regional on Sunday afternoon, having competed in both singles and doubles competition.
The main draw didnt go as planned for the Panthers as they saw all four of the ladies dropped in the opening round of singles play. Anita Girizd (Sr./Ada, Serbia) won her opening consolation bracket match but fell in her third match to end her singles play. Alejandra Gonzalez (So./Caracas, Venezuela) and Ana Pico (So./A Corona, Spain) each won multiple consolation matches to advance to the semi-final round where Gonzalez fell to the eventual champion, 6-2, 6-2. Pico faced GVSU in the Consolation Final, falling in a close three set battle, 6-2, 4-6, 12-14.
In the B flight, Gabriela Bowe (Fr./Freeport, Bahamas) won her opening two matches to advance to the second day of play. Paula Rodriguez (So./Mostoles, Spain) and Niki Stearns (Fr./Bandung, Indonesia) earned consolation bracket wins in singles play, but fell in their thrid round matches.
In doubles play, Gonzalez and Regina Camberos (Jr./San Luis Potosi, Mexico) earned an opening round win, before fallin in the final 16. In the B flight, Bowe and Rodriguez lost their opening round match, but bounced back with quality play, winning the consolation bracket, finishing 3-1 for the tournament.
The Panthers will be back in action on Saturday, October 4th as they travel to Northwood University for GLIAC play. The match is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
