Volleyball Drops Two To Close Warrior Invitational

DETROIT, Mich. – Ohio Dominican's volleyball team concluded play at the Warrior Invitational with a 3-1 setback to Wisconsin-Parkside (18-25, 11-25, 25-23, 19-25) and a 3-0 loss to Minnesota State-Mankato (11-25, 21-25, 17-25) on Saturday.

After dropping the first two sets to the Rangers, ODU hit .297 in the third frame with 17 kills against just six errors. The Panthers trailed 8-3 before scoring the next seven points to get back into it. With the set tied at 19-19, ODU tallied three straight points on a kill by junior Jordan Jaeckin (Olmsted Falls, Ohio), an ace by sophomore Bailey Line (Westerville, Ohio) and a combo block from juniors Rebecca Skidmore (Westerville, Ohio) and Patricia Barreto (Findlay, Ohio).

UWP scored the next two points, but kills from Barreto, freshman Alexis Young (Gahanna, Ohio) and freshman Alyssa Hoyng (Celina, Ohio) ended the set in ODU's favor.

In the fourth set, ODU took a 10-7 lead on a kill by junior Ciara Ralston (Findlay, Ohio), but the Rangers countered with a 9-3 run to go in front 16-13. The Panthers closed to within 17-16 on a kill by Hoyng, but the Rangers pulled away for a 25-19 win to close the match.

The Panthers hit .280 in the fourth set, but UWP swung at a .360 clip as well.

Line notched a double-double with 31 assists and 12 digs to go with three kills. A trio of Panthers had eight kills in Barreto, Skidmore and Young, and Hoyng and Ralston added six kills. Junior Anna Ficker (Cincinnati, Ohio) led the Panthers with 20 digs and chipped in four assists.

Against Mankato, the Panthers were limited to an 0.48 hitting percentage, while MSU hit .215 in the match. Line paced the team with 20 assists and Ficker notched 13 digs. Skidmore led the Panthers with seven kills and Hoyng and Young added five apiece.

Ohio Dominican (0-4) returns to action with a pair of matches on Friday, Sept. 8 against Upper Iowa (12:30 p.m. CT) and William Jewell (4:30 p.m. CT) at Missouri S&T.
