COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's volleyball team begins the 2018 season with four matches this weekend at the Southern Indiana Invitational.
The Panthers take on Edinboro at 9 a.m. (CT) on Friday, followed by a 2 p.m. (CT) match with Southern Indiana. ODU then squares off against Minnesota State at 9 a.m. (CT) on Saturday and Kentucky State at 4:30 p.m. (CT) that afternoon.
ODU returns four players who finished with at least 140 kills last year in seniors Patricia Barreto (Findlay, Ohio), Kelly Nadler (Leipsic, Ohio) and Rebecca Skidmore (Westerville, Ohio), along with sophomore Alexis Young (Gahanna, Ohio). Nadler leads all returners with 623 career kills, while Skidmore had 170 kills and 44 blocks last year. Barreto played a career-high 29 matches last fall with 144 kills, and Young finished with 194 kills in her rookie campaign.
Sophomore Ashton Barr (New Castle, Ind.) led the team with 778 assists last year while also registering 158 digs, 83 kills and 35 blocks, recording three double-doubles and one triple-double on the year.
The Panthers have experience in the back with seniors Anna Ficker (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Jordan Jaeckin (Olmsted Falls, Ohio) returning. Ficker tallied 366 digs in 2017 and has 1,213 career digs, while Jaeckin was second on the team with 267 digs a year ago. Young also finished with 256 for ODU as well.
The Panthers welcomed seven newcomers to the roster this fall, including six freshmen and one transfer.
