COLUMBUS, Ohio – This weekend, Ohio Dominican's volleyball team continues its 2018 campaign at the Tony Banner Memorial Tournament at Clarion University.
The four-match event will see the Panthers play Millersville at 2 p.m. and Clarion at 7 p.m. on Friday, with matches against Concord at 11 a.m. and Gannon at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
Last weekend, ODU took part in the Double Tree Invitational at the University of Southern Indiana. The Panthers lost their first three match-ups of the invitational, falling to Edinboro and Southern Indiana on Friday and Minnesota State Saturday morning. The team notched its first win of the season in their final match of the event, sweeping Kentucky State.
Sophomore Alexis Young (Gahanna, Ohio) hit .375 and racked up 14 kills to lead ODU in the victory against Kentucky State, while senior Rebecca Skidmore (Westerville, Ohio) added 10 kills. Sophomore Ashton Barr (New Castle, Ind.) tallied 30 assists and seven digs, while freshman Tate Rybarczyk (Avon Lake, Ohio) finished with 10 digs.
With their first few matches played, Barr is sixth in the conference in assists per set at 7.85. Meanwhile, Rybarczyk is among the conference leaders in digs, slotting in at tenth in the GMAC while averaging 4.15 digs per set. As a unit, ODU (1-3) sits in sixth in the conference in hitting percentage at .156.
As for their opponents this weekend, Millersville will play the first match of its season on Wednesday before playing the Panthers on Friday. Clarion sits at 2-2, with Concord at 1-3 and Gannon holding a 3-0 record.
