Volleyball Suffers Home Setback To Kentucky Wesleyan

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Despite registering four more kills than Kentucky Wesleyan, Ohio Dominican's volleyball team fell 3-0 (23-25, 23-25, 20-25) in a G-MAC contest Saturday afternoon at Alumni Hall.

ODU tallied 39 kills to KWC's 35, but the Panthers committed 21 hitting errors and 11 service errors in the setback.

Freshman Amanda Remmetter (Springfield, Ohio) recorded 13 kills and hit .268 while sophomore Alexis Young (Gahanna, Ohio) added 14 kills with 17 digs. Junior Allie Rutter (Fostoria, Ohio) registered a double-double with 13 digs and 11 assists and sophomore Ashton Barr (New Castle, Ind.) recorded 26 assists. Freshman Tate Rybarczyk (Avon Lake, Ohio) led ODU with 19 digs as well.

ODU trailed 8-3 in the first set but rallied to take a 14-11 lead on kills by freshman Riley Kizer (Mason, Ohio) and Barr. KWC would take a 20-18 lead, and the teams exchanged points the remainder of the set, with the visitors holding on for the two-point win.

ODU held a 19-16 lead in the second set after kills by freshman Zoë Carmichael (Wooster, Ohio) and Young, but the visitors countered with a 6-1 run to go in front 22-20. The Panthers hung within 24-23 after Remmetter and Young tallied consecutive kills, but KWC scored the final point to take the set.

In the third set, ODU found itself down by six on several occasions early but fought back to 12-11 on kills by Barr, Young and Kizer. The Panthers hung within 22-20 after another kill by Young, but KWC would score the final three points to close the match.

Ohio Dominican remains at home to host Ursuline at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in Alumni Hall.
